Blackbird Photos and InformationOne of the most confusing sets of birds to distinguish are the black birds. Many of them are simply black all over, so there is little to look for in distinguishing coloring. Also, many black birds live in large flocks that you cannot get very close to. The blackbird is one of the best known of the black birds. A classic nursery rhyme tells of "four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie". There was in fact a time when poor people would relish the meat provided by this common bird. Blackbirds were and are disliked by farmers for their ability to flock and destroy a crop's harvest. One type of blackbird is the Red Winged Blackbird, which has a distinctive red blotch on each wing. These birds are sometimes found in flocks, but are also found singly, sitting on a high perch watching over a marshy area.
