American Robin Photos and Information
The American Robin is often the first bird a youngster can recognize. Instead of hiding in trees, it strides along lawns, hunting for worms. Its blue eggs are often used in nest illustrations. It has a warbling song it sings, when it is feeling musical.
Named Turdus migratorius, the male robin is dark grey with a brick red breast, while the female has brown wings and a more orange breast. It ranges across the whole US, from Canada through Mexico. It likes forests and farmland, and is very fond of suburban lawns. It is often one of the last birds to leave in the summer, and is the 'harbringer of spring', arriving soon after spring thaw happens.
Robins won´t eat from a feeder, but they are drawn to a short-grass lawn where worms and insects are easy to locate.
