Birding Glossary - PlumageThe plumage of a bird refers to all of the feathers on their entire body. This includes both the often pretty outside feathers as well as the soft inner feathers that help keep the bird warm. Smaller birds seem to have more feathers per square inch than larger birds, in part to help keep them warm.
