Black Beauty Squash
Growing Information and Photos
These photos are all courtesy of Mensa Gardening SIG members. These Squash grow in Massachusetts. Enjoy!
Squash is VERY easy to grow in New England. I like Black Beauty Squash which is Zucchini. I start this indoors about 6 weeks before frost. I thin to 3 plants per pot when they start to grow over 1" tall. That then goes into a 12" hill center when putting outdoors. The hills should be 4 feet apart from each other.
The seedling takes around 10 days to germinate. The squash starts being ready to harvest in 60 days - keep picking the zucchini to get the plant to grow more. The squash should be between 6-8" long, just after the flower falls off.
I started the squash in a plastic wrap covered peat square, then moved it into a rolling greenhouse when it grew large enough.
