Genealogy Health Medical FormPart of your genealogy work should include medical information about your ancestors. These are not only interesting for genealogical reasons, but can be critical for your current health. Ask your current relatives to fill these out, and research this same information for any deceased relatives either through research or by asking their still-living kin. Promise to keep the information within the family - but for example if a female relative of yours has breast cancer, it's not something to hide! It can double the risk of her female relatives for breast cancer, and it's important that they know this and test themselves regularly. Some people have been taught to not speak of medical issues, or weight, or sleep problems. But it would be a huge shame if others in the family went through years of pain or issues, never realizing something genetic was at work. That way it seems less of a "doctor's exam" and more of a "interested relative wanting to know about your life". I personally have found out very important information by doing this - information that has greatly helped my sister and me handle our own medical lives. However you get the ball rolling, start talking about your health! It can literally add years to your life and to the life of your family.
