A Wedding - Genealogy Style

Are you or someone you know having a wedding soon? Use that genealogy mind of yours and document it for future generations!

Take Lots of Photos
Most weddings nowadays feature those disposable cameras on each table, so there can be lots of photos. Take pictures of the guests of course, but don't forget the other details that later generations find so fascinating. What did the band or DJ look like? How about the wedding cake? Were there any floral arrangements or ice sculptures? These are the things grandkids love to pour over.

Help Label the Photos
Ever genealogist knows the nightmare of having great photos of relatives - but having no idea who is who! Volunteer to sit down with the bride and groom in the weeks after the wedding to assemble those hundreds (or thousands!) of candid photos into a series of albums, complete with names and other information.

Write Up a Description
While photos are great, they don't give the details of the wedding - how did the bride walk down the aisle? Alone? With someone at her arm? How did the ceremony progress? What sorts of things were done at the reception? What were the dances of the day? What songs were danced to? All of these make fascinating reading for later generations.

Do a Generational Comparison
One of the fascinating things about genealogy is that we can see how cultures change from generation to generation. Do some research into the weddings of the parents of the bride and groom ... and then go back one step further to the grandparents. Look at how some things were done in the same manner, and some things were different. If you do this *before* the wedding, you might even have the couple deliberately include some customs in memory of those who came before them!
