The October Site of the Month is JewishGen: The Home of Jewish Genealogy. If you know or even suspect that you have Jewish ancestry, you should visit JewishGen as soon as possible. The site contains a wonderful array of articles, databases, email lists and links to other helpful web locations.

Be sure to start your visit to JewishGen by reading the FAQ, or Frequently Asked Questions, article. This contains basic information on getting started in genealogy and specific information about some the features available at JewishGen.

The JewishGen Family Finder or (JGFF) is a searchable database of towns and surnames that have been registered by more than 50,000 visitors online. You will not find specific family information, but will be able to view contact information for people that have registered an interest in a particular town or surname.

The Family Tree of the Jewish People offers the capability to upload your GEDCOM file and share you family tree with the world. In order to upload a file or search this Family Tree, you must register with the JewishGen Family Finder and receive a Researcher Code and Password. One you have submitted your contact information, you will be able to search the previously uploaded family files.

Another valuable offering from JewishGen is the availability of a number of mailing lists targeting specific geographic regions and research topics. Check the subscription page for easy access to all the mailing lists that are hosted by JewishGen.
