Samsung DVD-VR325 DVD VCR Player and Transfer

If you have piles of VHS tapes lying around, it is critical that you convert those into DVD copies. If they are important family files, be sure to send copies to every family member to cover in case of disaster. The Samsung DVD-VR325 lets you do that with the touch of one button.

We got the Samsung DVD-VR325 because it was the first unit that output a pure HD signal for a high definition TV. This gives the best quality signal for a high definition TV. It has the HDMI (native high definition) output as well as standard RCA style plugs for non-high definition signal. If this seems like gibberish to you, just know that it will work fine on just about any type of TV you have.

A big issue we found when working with the unit is that it ONLY uses DV-R (minus) DVDs as far as what computers and other writers create. If you don't know the difference between DVD-Video, DVD-R and DVD+R you can Read my article on DVD Types. In any case since we had already made a ton of DVD-R DVDs using our computer system, this was a royal pain. Plus it meant that other people who gave us DVDs had to be careful to only give us DVD+R type DVDs. At the time of this machine's release there wasn't any other machine available, so it's not like we "had a choice". However, Sony is preparing to come out with a machine that handles all types of DVDs, not just the DVD-R.

You could choose what resolution output to send the signal out at - 480, 720, 1080. We noticed audio drop-outs (i.e. sudden gaps in the sound) happening every 10-20 minutes, for a few seconds. This happened more at higher resolution settings than at lower.
