Converting Super 8 Movies to VHSJust about any family from the 60s or 70s has old Super 8 movies that are decaying and falling apart. It's extremely important to get these onto VHS or DVD before the video is lost. This is definitely not a process I would try at home. There are many systems that are sold to record the image from a Super-8 system onto a home camera, but in the end a professional recorder will have the quality lines and system to do the best possible job. It might cost $200 to have your super-8 movies turned into video - but when you do it, the super-8 will now be in a format you can use and work with on your own. To skimp and try to jury-rig it might involve losing a lot of quality, and saving a VHS or DVD version of a poor quality print is hardly cost effective in the long run. So step 1 is to get those Super-8 images into a format you can deal with. Check out Switchboard.com for video services in your area that handle Super-8. Just about every county has at least one group that deals in this area. You hand them your Super-8 movie reels, in some sort of order, and get back a VHS video or DVD of MPG files.
