Web Video Clips of Family
Many families are spread across wide areas, even in different countries. The video clip option on digital cameras, combined with the internet, can be the perfect way to keep in touch.
If you're doing long video projects, you would want to look into Converting VHS to DVD and distributing DVDs out to your family and friends. Long projects aren't well matched for the web, though, because they require long download times and high bandwidth requirements.
Consider sending those large DVDs once a year, maybe on the holidays. In the meantime, use the video clip option on your digital camera to create short MPG videos - under 1mb in size - to keep in touch in the meantime.
If you do these every 2-3 months, and post them on a website, it lets the whole family watch as children grow, as adults change, to get an idea of what the landscape is like where you live. It lets you stay in tune with each others accents, mannerisms, expressions, and more.
When filming these clips, keep them short. 15 seconds is an ideal length. You want to encourage your family members to check back for these little clips regularly, and to be able to download them very quickly. The easier it is for your relatives to see the clips quickly, the more likely they will be to actually watch them and enjoy them.
Some things to mention or do in these clips are:
* Your name
* Your age
* Your current interests
* Any trips you took in the past few months
* What you're looking forward to
* Show around your bedroom
* Show off a latest project
* Sing a bit from your favorite song
* Dance
* Tell a joke
It also helps to take a photo right before or after you do the video clip, so that the webpage can show the photo and link to the matching video.
