The Waller - Warren Family Cookbook
George Waller

George Frank John Waller was the grandson of Carl Johann Friedrich Waller, who had come from Stade, Germany to Chicago, Illinois in the end of the 1800s. As a young man, George enlisted for World War II and during the soldiers dances, met and fell in love with Jane Warren in Tennessee.

George was known for loving "good" bread. He loved to travel all over the world and visited 26 countries during his life.

These two Q&A come from an interview his granddaughter, Tammy, did with him.

Q: Can you give me a favorite family recipe? Why is it your favorite?
A: sauer kraut & mashed potatoes.

Q: What was your favorite thing to eat?
A: Anything except rabbit or brains.

From his son, George:
He wasn't a picky eater and claimed he would eat anything (unlike his weakling children). He could eat anything from the simplest soup and sandwich to stuff at a fancy restaurant. Mostly just ate what was put in front of him. Every two weeks or so he would get home late from NYC and Mom would keep a plate of food warm for him in the oven. He preferred potatoes to rice or pasta. He preferred pie to cake.
