Lisa's Ukrainian Heritage
Group Photo
Group photo - looks like same film as "uncle William" photos from 1953. Mom feels this photo is from 1956. She says:
"We lived in a 12-family building on Congress Avenue
in New Haven. Many of the families were Ukrainian. This is a birthday
party for a neighbor's daughter Jeannie Micenko (being held at head of table).
Typical party scene. Birthdays were big events for adult gatherings.
(forget a party with your little friends - that was unheard of) Her father
Valda was Ukrainian and the mother was German. They were the first to get a
TV. Anton and I are on the right. (I look about 9 or 10, so 1956 or so?)
Slavko and Katie Czuzhman, other neighbors, are on the left. He also was Ukrainian and his wife
was German. Their daughter was Ava
and quite the hot shot. She's still friends with Stephanie."
