These questions were asked by granddaughter Thamzen Waller, daughter of George A. Waller
Q: Can you tell me about your family when you were young?
A: All of my aunts, uncles, cousins and grandmothers lived in the Chicago area and we had many family dinners and picnics.
Q: What were you like then?
A: A REAL ANGEL (HA! HA!)
Q: Can you tell me something special about your parents?
A: My father enjoyed building things. He and I built a one-room summer cabin together when I was 15.
Q: Who do I resemble most?
A: Your mother
Q: Can you tell me about the other children in your family? Did you get along with them?
A: I have one sister, Dorothy. We argued then & still do.
Q: What did your family do together?
A: Lots of picnics, summers at the summer cabin. We, also, ate evening meals together as a family. (Gramps didn’t mention this, but his parents had good voices, so there were many song fests around the piano with Aunt Edna playing.)
Q: Can you give me a favorite family recipe? Why is it your favorite?
A: sauer kraut & mashed potatoes.
Q: Did you ever get into trouble for doing something you weren’t supposed to do?
A: NEVER! NEVER!
Q: What was it?
A: Well, never, unless you count the time I set a wastepaper basket on fire and almost burned down the house.
Q: How old were you?
A: 8 or 10
Q: What was one of your greatest adventures when you were small. Tell me about it.
A: When I was ten we went on a vacation trip to Niagara Falls and we went to the walkway built at the foot of the falls and had to wear special clothes because you got very wet.
Q: What was one of the funniest things that happened to you when you were young?
A: couldn’t remember
Q: How did you two meet?
A: On August 7, 1941 at Camp Forrest, Tennessee, during WWII, at a dance sponsored by his 33rd Division Signal Company for a group of young ladies from the surrounding towns who belonged to Victory Clubs.
Q: Tell me about my parent’s birth.
A: He was a beautiful baby!!
Q: What was your favorite thing to eat?
A: Anything except rabbit or brains.
Q: What sport did you like best?
A: Baseball or football.
