Ora Belle Smith
1893 - 1981
Tennessee Farmer's Wife

Ora Belle was a religious, literate woman. She was born in 1893 in Tennessee to Robert Pleasant Smith and Nancy Jane Hunter Smith. In 1913 she was one of the first people to attend a brand new college for women, learning academics and athletics. She spent her married years as the wife of a farmer, Blakeley Warren, raising two girls and a boy. Her children were Nancy, Joe, and Jane. Nicknamed "Mamaw" by her grandkids, she died in 1981.

The photo above is from June 12, 1919 she's shown with husband Blakeley and her oldest daughter, Nancy.

Ora's youngest daughter, Jane, shared this early memory of her mom's:
"When I was six I was playing out on the road, when I heard a huge monster approach. I had just jumped over the fence when the first car I had ever seen sputtered by."
