Ora Belle Smith in College
The back says Pictures of Ora B Smith at Ward Belmont, Nashville Tenn. Another area says On practice day, for festival, I picked little flower, near Pergola at Ward Place. Ward Belmont was a high school / junior college for women from 1913-1951. These would have been right from the 1913 years, since she was 20 then. Apparently Ora's roomie was named Valda.

Thanks for sharing the pictures of your great grandmother. The sailor type uniform does look like the other pictures I have seen of the Ward Belmont dress. I wasn't aware there was a roof top garden, but am not surprised to find that out that there was one. Ward Belmont was quite the prestigious prep-school / jr. college for girls. A sweet, elderly lady was in here the other day who graduated in the late 30s. She talked about playing tennis as that was one of their big sports - that and choreographed swimming. They all took music classes (mastering a musical instrument or voice). Their education extended beyond the academic. It was important for them to be well rounded, befitting well-bred young ladies. It's such an interesting history.
How fortunate you are to have knowledge of this legacy and pictures to prove it! Thanks again for sharing!
