SHEA GENEOLOGY
DUNN
I'm looking for info on and ancestors of Michael Shea b:Jan 1840 according
to the US Census and his wife Bridget Dunn b:Apr 1844; both believed to
have come from County Cork.
My father said his grandfather came from Glencannon but I have not been
able to find any such place in Co Cork or Ireland. According to the 1890
Veterans Census he served in Company D 26th Connectcut Volunteers.
According to regimental records Micheal Shea enlisted from Norwich, CT
9/17/1862 and was discharged 8/11/1863. He was wounded in his left eye and
lost his sight in that eye. The couple had 7 children and 3 were known to
survive. They were Hannah b:1867; Michael b:1869;and John Joseph b:29 Dec
1873(my grandfather). On one US Census it showed Bridget Shea age 60
living with them and I would presume it was his mother, although it could
have been an aunt. Both Michael and Bridget died in Troy, NY. The had
been married 39 years in 1900 and it showed Michael naturalized 1853 and
Bridget in 1861.
Any info will be greatly appreciated. Richard F. Shea
