Shea Genealogy
Michael
My great, great grandfather Michael Shea (a carpenter) was born in
County Tipperary either in 1814 or 1820 (I have 2 different dates). I
am about to try and obtain his death certificate as he died on 30
January 1885 in New South Wales, Australia. He married a Margaret
Johnson (also from Ireland born in Queens County (County Laois) 1832).
There are still many gaps in my knowledge and I am trying to trace these
in Australia. There are no other male Shea's from Michael except my
brother and I.
I have loads more information on the family of Michael. I believe he is
the same Michael Shea who was sent to Australia as a convict. The
reference I have for him as aconvict was from the Irish Transportation
Records and he was trialed in County Tipperary on 20/10/1838 and
sentenced for transportation (7 years) to Australia for Larceny.
None of my living family knew that Michael was a convict but in those
days it was a shame to have convict ancestry.
