The sheas are part of the Erainn clan. They trace back to Oengus Bolg, apparently. God of Lightning, maker of Lug's Spear. There are several branches from this tree, one of them being Corca Dhuibhne. That was a great clan in West Kerry, comprised of the O'Connells and the O'Sheas.

The O'Sheas (O Seaghdha) ruled the present Iveragh region in West Kerry. They were kicked out around the 12th century when those Anglos moved in. Some of them went to Kilkenny where they became foremost among the "Ten tribes of Kilkenny". The rest lurked around Kerry and Cork.
