Emma by Jane Austen
In the various books by Jane Austen, Emma falls probably right in the middle in terms of ones I like and enjoy. I don't love it nearly as much as Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, and Persuasion. The key reason is Emma can come across as a very unlikeable character, depending on how she's played. I like the 1996 version best with Gwyneth Paltrow - they do the best job in this script of giving Emma some depth.
