William Elliot
Persuasion
William is supposedly the "main villain" in this story but depending what version you watch it isn't very well presented. In the book he's scheming to marry Anne (while keeping a mistress) to ensure he really does inherit the title of the Elliot family. In the 2008 version, he's pretty friendly throughout the movie and the mistress thing is just a last minute toss-in during a run.
The 2008 Masterpiece Theater version is below.
The 1995 version, nice enough.
OK you can't really see William in this next image but I wanted to show the back of the opera singer's dress in the 1995 version.
In 1971, he is slightly more scheming, but still just too smooth and mild.
