Casablanca
Movies Set in the Florida Keys
Year Released - 1942
Director - John Huston
Stars - Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman
Length - 102 minutes
Casablanca has made many top movie lists, and for good reason. It's the ultimate movie of wartime, movie of romance, movie of lost dreams and realized hopes. It won best picture in 1944.
Most of Casablanca was filmed in California. The "streets of Paris" still exist on a Warner Brothers back lot. The airport scene was at the Van Nuys Airport. Because of the war (Pearl Harbor had just happened), there were many restrictions on filming including not filming on location. Casablanca was filmed entirely on soundstages in Burbank, California. It was filmed in under 60 days!
Still, there is a tie-in here. The Caribbean Club, which becomes the setting for Key Largo in a few years, is used as a model for the interior of Rick's Club. Look to see if you can find the similarities!
CARIBBEAN CLUB: Mile marker 104.
