Origami Cranes and Flowers

Lotus Origami Flower

A lotus is a type of aquatic water flower with gorgeous blooms and multiple tiers of petals. The lotus is similar to the water lily. The Sacred Lotus is the national flower of India. The lotus is mentioned both in the Bible as well as in Homer's Odyssey.

Origami Lotus Flower In many religions the lotus represents spiritual awakening. When a lotus flower begins to grow, it grows down at the bottom of a pond, in the muck and dark. Slowly it grows upwards towards the light, finally breaking free of the surface and reveling in the sunshine.

The lotus can represent a fresh start, a new beginning. It is often used in weddings and baby showers for this reason.

The lotus origami shape involves a great deal of time and attention. First, 12 pieces of origami washi paper must be carefully hand-cut down to the dimensions of 15cm x 8.3cm. Then each piece must be folded, connected together, and spread out into the flower shape. A foil version is even more challenging to create!

Here are some images of the lotus origami flower. They can be used as table centerpieces, place settings, decorations along a deck or garden path, ornaments in a flower bed, and much more!
