Daruma Doll

A daruma doll is a classic image in Japanese culture. It is a "goal setting" doll. When you begin your goal, you paint in one eye. The doll then sits on a shelf, reminding you to work towards that goal. When you achieve it, you can finally paint in the other eye. Japanese politicians often paint in the second eye on their victory night.

This daruma doll is actually a sake container. Sake is a form of Japanese rice wine.
