Georgia Votes to Teach EvolutionGeorgia's Board of Education has voted unanimously to continue teaching evolution in its schools. Superintendant Cox had wanted to change the term evolution to "biological changes over time". Cox had made the request in order to bypass discussions over evolution, hoping that the new phrase would soothe the religious right who opposed evolution. However, the public outcry against the change was fast and furious. The Georgia Governor and former President Jimmy Carter were two of the loudest voices against the change. With every other state and country teaching about evolution, it would have put Georgia students at a disadvantage in college if they entered college not having learned scientific information using the same vocabulary and information as the rest of the world uses. In the new version of the biology curriculum, it states "molecular evidence substantiates the anatomical evidence for evolution".
