Once you are ready to start setting up the items you are going to keep, it's time to organize. Walk into your garage an look up. Get cheap hooks and hang them from the ceiling. This is the perfect place for hanging ladders, bikes, ropes, hoses, and other items.

Next, look at the walls. Put in nails for anything that you can hang on the wall. You can add loops to many garden tools. You can nail many plastic holders to the walls to hold nails, screws, washers and other small items.

A lot of garage clutter comes from lack of organization. The easier you can make the task of organizing, the more likely it will be done. Open topped bins that you can toss things into might be used more frequently than drawers. Set up shelves that are easy to get to.

Try to find a place for everything. Get small boxes for screws and bolts, larger ones for wrenches. You don't have to spend thousands on an expensive organizing system. Any free boxes or plastic containers will do. When you finish up with a glass jar of spaghetti sauce, wash it out in the dishwasher and then retask it as a holder of nails.

Make sure you have ample lighting for your tasks. Install spotlights for areas you work often, and get the cheap under-counter lights for more close-in work.

It might take a few weeks to get into the habit of putting things away when you're done - but it'll make a huge difference in how more efficiently you work in the garage - and how much time you have left over to do other things in your schedule!
