Levelling a Maytag Dishwasher

We own a Maytag Jetclean EQ Plus dishwasher, model MDB7130AWW. Here are the levelling instructions for this dishwasher.

First, to make sure you're looking at the right unit, here is a photo of our Maytag Jetclean EQ Plus dishwasher - we have the white version of it.

Amazingly, no matter how much we searched on the web, every set of instructions for levelling a dishwasher seemed to say "just turn the feet" - but they never told you HOW to determine if the dishwasher was level or not level. They simply warned you that dire consequences could result if your dishwasher was not level. Water could come pouring out.

Since our dishwasher DID have a leaking problem, we immediately wanted to make sure it was level as the first step. Here is how to level a maytag dishwasher.

There are two directions you need to level in. One is left to right. The other is front to back. So let's start with left to right, as that is easiest.

Open the main door and take out the bottom rack. Now place the level at the back center of the door - nearest to the unit itself - pointing from left to right. That is, when you stand in front of your dishwasher and look into it, you can see the level bubble floating from left to right in front of you. That bubble should be in the center of the level space.

Here's a close up of the level, to show what it should look like.

If this bubble is NOT centered left to right, you need to adjust the feet. Take off the kick panel at the bottom of your dishwasher. You'll see the four feet that hold the dishwasher up. These can be adjusted up or down to help the dishwasher be level. You'll want to tweak those four feet until that bubble is centered.

So far so good. This accounts for left to right. But how about front to back?

For MOST dishwashers you do this by putting the level on the rail that the bottom rack slides in and out on. That rail should be level. However, that rail is NOT level on a Maytag dishwasher! Maytag has that rail at an angle.

So you have to get a small level to fit it on the actual "floor" of the inside of the dishwasher in order to level it.

Make sure your dishwasher is level in both directions after all your adjustments, and then put that kick plate back on.

If your dishwasher is leaking even though it is level, it's time to look at the liner.
