Dream Symbols - Fire
Fire is a key symbol in many dreams, from a romantic candle to an out of control house fire. It is important to note both what kind of fire it is, as well as how you felt about the fire.
Cleansing Fire
Fire can be a very cleansing force, clearing away the debris to make way for a fresh start. If you dream about an old, worn down forest, and a fire sweeps through to destroy the old growth and let the new trees grow freely, this would be a sign that you have 'dead wood' in your own life. You are looking to get rid of this clutter and to start afresh.
Comforting Fire
When under control, fire can be warming, comforting, and protective. Think of a beautiful, roaring fire in a fireplace, while you and your loved one clink wine glasses. Think of a family toasting marshmallows around a campfire. In these situations, a fire can indicate a sense of happiness, of security and comfort.
Romantic Fire
Fire on a small scale is very intimate and romantic. The soft glow of candles on a dining room table, the flickering candles by the bed or bath. These could be indications that you're craving sensuality and contact in your life.
Destructive Fire
When not in control, fire can be very scary and destructive. If you're feeling that your life is out of control, you might dream of a massive fire burning down your home, with you trapped inside. If you're worried about your children, you might dream that they're stuck in a fire, and you can't get them out.
The key is to examine how you reacted to the fire in the dream. Were you afraid of it? Pleased by it? Comforted or enthralled by it? This will guide you towards the correct interpretation.
