Dumb Criminals: The Escape

A friend's father, who spent several years working for the Federal Penitentiary System, told me a story about a couple of convicts at the Federal Pen in Safford Arizona. The prison is minimum security and the convicts can easily walk out. However it is surrounded by Mt. Graham on one side and the desert on the other three. To escape they had another prisoner, who claimed to be familiar with the mountain, draw them a map giving directions over the mountain and into the town on the other side.

After several days without food or water and fighting the harsh elements, the escapees came off the mountain only to discover that the "town" was actually a State Penitentiary. They were so hungry, thirsty and tired that they gladly turned themselves in.
