Clairol Ultress Hair ColorI'd used several temporary (semi-permanent) dyes, but the few gray hairs I have seemed to reappear quite quickly. I decided to take the plunge and just do a permanent dye, in order to keep those gray hairs hidden for longer stretches of time. Clairol's Ultress line has a number of nice color options. The general set-up is the same as with the temporary hair dyes. To begin with, you put on the provided plastic gloves. You have a large plasic bottle, which you open up. Into it you squeeze a main tube of colorant - and a smaller tube of highlight. You shake up the large bottle. Bending over a sink or tub, you apply it to your dry hair. After 20-45 minutes, you rinse it all out and then add in some conditioner. The initial huge difference I found was in the potent aroma created by this hair dye. It literally made my eyes water and made it hard to breathe. Note that it was a hot summer day so I had the windows all open and a fan blowing. Even with all of that fresh air, the mix was still potent. This is NOT something to be doing in a closed room. The color did end up being rich and well covering - they definitely give you more than enough to do longer than shoulder length hair. My hair was soft and nice feeling after I was done with the process. The gray was well covered. Well recommended!
