Causes of Mesothelioma

Almost every case of mesothelioma is caused by asbestos. In some cases it can't be proven, but most of the time you can find a very clear link between asbestos in the environment and the cancer that began in your lungs. In factories where people actually worked with asbestos, the rates are staggeringly high. The larger the size of the particles floating around in the air, that then got breathed in, the more likely you were to come down with mesothelioma.

Every human being is different, though. Some of us have really healthy lungs, that can fight off infection. Some of us have super weak lungs, maybe because we've smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day for 20 years. So you can put 2 people into the exact same environment, and one person could come down with mesothelioma while the second person does not.

Keep in mind that a person who works in an asbestos-rich environment is going to probably have their body coated with asbestos powder. It'd be like working in a sugar donut factory and coming home with sugar dust on your body. Anybody at home who then got near you could easily breathe in some of those little dusty bits, and now have a problem.
