Eastern Philosohpy vs Western Philosophy
This is a very arbitrary division, but many groups break up philosophy into two basic groups - eastern philosophy and western philosophy.
Eastern philosophy is the philosophy of Asia. The main philosophies that fall into this category are:
* Indian philosophy
Hinduism and Buddhism are the main philosophies in this grouping.
* Chinese philosophy
Taoism and Buddhism are the two philosophies in China.
* Japanese philosophy
Zen Buddhism is the primary philosophy discussed here.
On the other hand is held Western philosophy. Instead of being country-based, Western philosophy is usually broken down in a progression of years.
* Greek and Roman philosophy
Socrates, Plato, Aristotle
* Renaissance philosophy
Voltaire, Descartes
* Modern philosophy
Kierkegaard, Heidegger
