LISA & BOB:
Houston Texas - July 1996

July 5th
A gorgeous day dawned for fun in southern Texas. First, we drove out to Galveston, Texas, to see the Moody Gardens Rainforest - a 10 story pyramid building which was chock-full of butterflies, birds, and other creatures. It was lovely. Here are a collection of photos from the gardens!

The beaches at Galveston were beautiful too. This is definitely a great area for birding!

By now we were quite hungry. We had dinner at Gaido's - a restaurant recommended to us by one of our Mensan friends, and enjoyed it greatly. I got a shot glass for my collection.

Next we swung by the Science Museum and it explored it a bit. Unfortunately its hours were short so we had to leave before we got to see it all. But we weren't sleepy yet.

Bob suggested that since his band always sings about Lake Charles, Louisiana (in "Up on Cripple Creek") that we go there and grab some t-shirts!! This is a gambling ferry area a ways into the state. Off we went! We drove past some flame-shooting refineries, and then through all sorts of interesting landscapes before finally hitting the gambling area. Onto the ferry we walked.

What a depressing sight! Tons of video zombies who just pulled arms and stuck in quarters. I am certainly glad I don't have any fondness for gambling!! We grabbed our souveniers and high-tailed it out of there, back safe and home to the AG hotel.

July 6th
We were all set with our vacation - we dropped off our rental car, got onto the plane and headed for home!
