Meow Mix Upstream Dream Cat FoodI have to admit that I didn't have high hopes for Meow Mix to standup against other quality pouch food options. The first warning sign was when it only had 2.75oz/78g per packet where every other one we've used has 3oz/85g per packet. That's not a lot - but why be deceptive and make your package seem the same size so you could charge more for less? The mix has cool descriptions like "salmon and crab in sauce". It makes it sound like a gourmet dinner. However, what's in the packet?
It actually isn't too bad. In order of percentage - Those are actual good ingredients (well until you get to the guar gum, which is just a sticking agent to give the mix some cohesion). On to nutrition -
Curious how I got my "real values"? Read Calculating Nutritional Content in Wet Food When you pour out the contents it does look like bits of meat in a goo that is colored. There's a fair amount of protein in this, which is good. It's not nearly as gravied as I like to see in a wet food, though. There's still a lot of dry solids in here which are hard for a cat to eat. So in the end, this was much better than I had expected. It still bugs me that the pouch is shaved to be smaller, though. Feeding recommendations is 2 pouches per 4.5 pounds. So an 18 lb cat should get 8 pouches a day. That seems VERY excessive to me. Size: 2.75 oz pouch
