Whiskas Tender Bites Cat FoodWhiskas is one of those cat food companies that I look on with a bit of distrust. They're cheap - and there's a reason that they're cheap. Let's take a look at their ingredient list, in order of percentage.
sufficient waterfor porcessing If you compare that to other pouch foods, there is a LOT of fluff here. They dumped in enough water that it became the #1 ingredient. Was the meat all dried out beforehand? Meat by-products are really nasty things that no pet should eat. Cats are also not meant to eat a ton of wheat flour and wheat gluten. Ah, but how about the nutrition?
Curious how I got my "real values"? Read Calculating Nutritional Content in Wet Food The mixture looks like a gummy processed mix. Which isn't surprising given what ingredients are in it. It's not very gravied, despite all the water. I guess the water mixed with the flour and formed paper mache :) Feeding recommendations is 1 pouch per 5 pounds, twice daily. So an 18 lb cat should get 7 pouches a day - but only get them in 2 feedings. That both seems VERY excessive to me in volume and very sparing in feedings. I've found cats do best (just like humans) with small, regular meals, vs periods of fasting followed by periods of gorging. Size: 3 oz pouch
