Animal Planet Motorized Spinning Toys

When I first saw the Animal Planet battery-operated spinning toy in the store, I was thrilled. This seemed just perfect for our cat! With its bent wand, it would spin randomly around, dangling the ball for the cats to swat at.

The cats went CRAZY for it. They jumped, swatted, you name it. You can adjust the speed to go fast or slow. You can set it on sensor mode where it only turns on while a cat is around. Unfortunately when it's in this mode it beeps every minute or so to warn you that the battery is draining. That beep gets VERY annoying.

After a while the cats figured out that the unit wasn't "going anywhere" - i.e. that they could lay in one spot and the ball would come back to them. They got less active but still played with it a lot - they would sit down at one side of the radius and then just swat at the ball as it went past.

There was a problem with the line wrapping itself around a tail, paw or neck occasionally, but the easy break away design meant that the cat would just wander off, and we'd loosen it for them.

When we went back to the store, they had only the "new and improved model".

I'm afraid the cats just do NOT like this version. Undoubtedly the makers were trying to eliminate the cat-lasso problem of the first one, but this was just too boring for the cats. They never play with it. If we put the 2 units side by side, they always go for the first one.
