Parakeet Gout - uric acid buildup

Gout is the body's inability to get rid of uric acid - either because the kidneys do not efficiently get rid of the normal amounts, or because a disorder causes the body to produce it too much.

Genetics have an effect on gout, and overeating and alcohol consumption also increase the risk for gout.

So for a parakeet, if your keet develops gout, it has to do probably with its diet. Try to give the keet a more healthy, balanced diet. If the issue is genetic, then talk with your vet about what sort of a diet can at least ease the issue.

NOTE: I AM NOT A VET! If you have ANY concern about your parakeet's health and safety, no 'far off person' on the web will be able to accurately diagnose the issue. You need to bring your keet to a real, live vet to see the symptoms first hand and take appropriate action.
