Pesticides Cause Death
Parakeet - Budgie - Keets
Remember those kids in the Philippines who died after eating food? It turns out they died because there were still pesticides on the food. Those were full sized kids that died. A parakeet would only need a minute trace of poison to die.
Beyond Pesticides - Philippines Children
Whenever you feed any food to your parakeet - WASH IT THOROUGHLY. I know that I personally have gotten sick in the past by eating fruit that was not well washed, the pesticides still on the fruit did a serious number to me. I was nauseous and almost hallucinating. It took a full day for me to recover from that. Your keet has a TINY system and even the smallest hint of poison can seriously damage or kill your keet.
Here's a CNN Report on pesticides -
Pesticide Problems on CNN
"Chlorpyrifos kills pests by disrupting normal nerve transmission, inhibiting an enzyme in the insect's nervous system. In humans, chlorpyrifos can cause headaches, blurred vision, nausea, convulsions, flu-like symptoms and even seizures. In extreme cases, it has been linked to quadriplegia, genetic damage, birth defects, immune-system abnormalities and death"
