Natural Alternatives to Pesticides
Parakeet - Budgie - Keets
You should NEVER put pesticides in your home or around your home unless it is the very last resort possible. The long term effects of pesticides are incredibly bad. They can cause cancers, miscarriages and death. There are many, many natural ways to deal with pests and fungus issues.
Keeping Pests Out
First, the only reason there are pests IN your house is that they got in somehow. Get sealing foam and gel, and go around and seal up the cracks and entries into your home. If pests are getting in, air is getting in too, which means your heating and cooling bills are skyrocketing. Many bad housekeeping practices also contribute to the problem. Do you have open cereal containers? Open containers of rice or flour? Tupperware is REALLY cheap. Seal up the food items in your pantries. If there is not food to eat, the pests and rodents will not come in!
All animals need water in order to live. If you have leaky faucets, leaky pipes or a leaky roof, you are asking for trouble. Not only do you help to keep pests alive, but you are also damaging your home. It's not that hard to patch these things. It just needs time and energy.
Many pests eat wood. NO wood should be in contact with the soil - you should have at least 18" between the bottom of the soil and where the wood begins. Your wood should be kept sealed and in good condition. All firewood and other lumber should be kept FAR away from the house. NEVER bury wood or stumps anywhere near your home.
Slaying Existing Pests
What if the pests are already in your house? While you are doing the above tasks, get your hands on some silica gel or boric acid. These usually do the trick for critters in your home, without killing off your human and pet inhabitants. Many creatures are sensitive to garlic, soap and vinegar. Simply look up the thing you are trying to drive away, and find what the matching natural substance is.
Outside the Home
Why are you spraying poison around outside your home? It's going to drift right into the house, and be carried in on your shoes and clothing! Never mind the many natural birds and creatures that you are killing off. Look into natural solutions. Ladybugs for example eat up a TON of bad insects! Bats are wonderful at nibbling tons of mosquitos. A vinegar solution can handle many garden issues. Make sure you cover all garbage cans tightly and eliminate all standing water. That takes care of most of your issues with flying pests (flies, mosquitoes) right there.
Lawn Issues
If your lawn is unhealthy, it's your job to make it healthy! That means you water it properly, aerate it, fertilize it and maintain a proper pH. All of these things can be done with natural products.
