My Parakeet flies Loose but Isn't Hand Trained

User Question
I recently bought my first parakeet and hes pretty skitish. He was not hand fed. Ive only had him for two days and I got him from petco and his wings are clipped. Im going to let them grow out. How long before my bird will be able to fly.

I get him out but im kinda afraid he might hurt himself fly falling around the room. When I get him out he fly falls to get away from me. Im alittle worried because with the exception of when Im messing with him he doesnt move at all. if i get him out he will fly somewhere like my bicycle and sit there for hours. Any advice would be appreciated

First you should NEVER let your bird out if it is not hand trained. What if there was a fire and you had to get your bird to safety? Your bird would be all over the room and not responding to your "UP" command. It is critical that your bird be hand trained before it leaves its cage.

Birds wings grow in at different rates for different birds and it also depends on how much of the feather was cut. I have to imagine though that by the time you have him hand trained, he will be able to fly again.
