Alarm Clocks, Steam and Cats with Parakeets
User Question
the first one is, I am 14 and going into 8th grade, of course this means alarm clocks. i have read that parakeets scare very eaisly and i was wondering if my alarm clock (which is loud) would scare my bird.
the second question is you metioned showering with your parakeets but i am afraid my bathroom might get too steamy and hot, i dont usually take hot showers but just on the safe side i was wondering if it could be dangerous.
and the last question was, i have a cat, her name is nala she is declawed in the front but not in the back incase she was to run out of the house, we were planning on hanging the cage from my ceiling so nala would have no clear chance to bug my bird but i was wondering is this safe? for fear of the cage rocking and my bird being injured by a falling toy, thanks so much for your time and your website is the greatest!

On alarm clocks, heck, all of us have alarm clocks. Your keets will get used to it. I highly recommend tuning it to a radio station and waking up to music. Keets love music and it will keep both of you happy in the morning.
On showers, if it was TOO steamy then it might be hard for the parakeets to breathe. And certainly, the water the keets play in should be warm, not hot. Use the same care as you would with a baby. Lukewarm is fine, but really hot is not fine. Parakeets have tiny bodies after all.
Lots of people hang cages from the ceiling. Just make sure you have a VERY sturdy hook with an anchor so it can't easily pull out. Toys shouldn't be able to fall, they should be secured with hooks that snap shut. So there really shouldn't ever be an issue of a toy falling on a keet's head, no matter where the cage is.
