Parakeet and a Cockatiel
User Question
Hi, Lisa....I have a cockatiel...and I was wondering if I get a parakeet ...should I put the parakeet in the same room as my cockatiel and train the parakeet....It's kind of hard thinking about this because I never had a parakeet...This is my first bird...and it's doing good....But do you think I should put the parakeet in the same room as my cockatiel and train the parakeet in the same room? LOL I don't know..I just want your opinion because you have parakeets.
Lisa's Answer
Pet shops to keep parakeet cages by cockatiel cages all the time and it's funny, because the parakeets quickly learn to sing like cockatiels and it drives the cockatiels crazy thinking there are other cockatiels nearby :) I did have a cockatiel once and it was fine with my parakeets. Sure, I would keep them in the same room so they can keep each other company. The cockatiel isn't a budgie so both the cockatiel and you are going to be "not budgies" in this parakeet's life and it'll have to learn a "foreign language" in either case to talk like either of you. So I think it'll enjoy having a flying friend in the cockatiel as well as having a cuddling and talking friend in you.
