Parakeets and Other Birds

User Question
I have a quick question. What kind of birds can be put into the same cage as parakeets?

Lisa's Answer
I suppose the quick answer then is "none". Even if you bring a second parakeet into the house, you should always let the new parakeet have its own cage until it gets used to the current parakeet you own. A lot of times the parakeets won't get along at first and will need their own cages. To ask a parakeet to share its home with an entirely different species is a bit rough. Parakeets in the wild don't let other birds into their nests! It's really best that each bird has its own cage. If two parakeets begin to get along and *want* to share a cage, that's of course OK. But I really doubt they'd voluntarily do that with other birds.
