Parakeets and 4 Declawed Cats

User Question
I have four indoor only cats who are completely declawed. I just got a parakeet and am currently keeping his cage locked in the bedroom away from the cats. I was wondering if you could give me any advice on how to slowly introduce the cats to the parakeet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

All cats are different but all cats have natural instincts that have to be watched. You can't untrain a cat. They might not do anything for the first few months but then they'll decide now is the time to pounce. You need to keep the cats locked out when the birds are free, and keep the cage somewhere safe from cat jumping.
