Molting and Bleeding

User Question
I read your information on molting...especially where you answered

the lady's question about the "raw" area under the wings. My keet is

doing that also, but it of course isn't summer...it is actually getting

cooler here. Is it normal for the keets to bleed in this same area as the

new feathers poke through? Thanks for your reponse and have a great day!

Lisa's Answer
Molting should NOT cause bleeding. Molting is like dogs shedding hair or humans shedding hair - it's just getting rid of the old unwated stuff so that new, fresh stuff can grow in. When you brush your hair and old hairs come off, it doesn't cause bleeding.

Molting tends to happen as the seasons change - in the spring and fall - but can happen at other times of year based on your heating and cooling systems. But in any case if there is bleeding involved, please see your vet.
