Bulging Parakeet

User Question
My parakeet looks like it is pregnant. I had another parakeet that had

the same thing, a vet said it's craw (not sure of spelling). She was able

to get it out for the bird but I didn't see how. I don't have access to a

bird vet anymore, can I take care of this? The bird doesn't seem to be

uncomfortable. I didn't see anything on your page that covered this

situation. Thank you for any help.

Lisa's Answer
I've never heard of anything called craw ...? There can of course be many things that cause a parakeet to bulge. One is a tumor / cancer. That would cause a lump in the bird. Next would be an egg stuck in it, if it was female and had decided to lay an egg. There doesn't have to be a male parakeet present, sometimes female parakeets just decide they want to lay an egg.

Whatever the issue is, you need to get it resolved quickly. Bulging parakeets are not normal. You need to find a vet in the area - a new vet if you can't get to your old one - to get it resolved. You can't randomly just start doing things to the bird to see if something happens to be a fix for the problem.
