Runt Parakeet with a Cockateil

User Question
We just got a parakeet. He is what I am calling a special needs bird. From what the vet said, we think that he was the runt of litter of 13 birds. His legs never developed properly. He 'walks' on his ankles.

Anyway, my in-laws have a Cockateil and we want to bring him to our house. (He used to be ours but we had to get rid of him when we moved.) Is this a good idea? I have heard that they can live together, but what do you think?

I am just worried that the Parakeet, named Emperor Kuzko, will be picked on by the cockateil, named Gabe.

Lisa's Answer
Certainly the birds can be in the same room, but I would never put them into the same cage. The size difference is too large. The birds can keep each other company with singing, but have their own homes to be safe in.
