My Keet is an Acrobat

This won't require a response from you - just wanted to tell you how very helpful your parakeet information has been. I recently bought my first parakeet (a bin-o-budgie purchase) since I was a child. He? is very young and in spite of his origins - is a wonderful bird. After only 3 days he was sitting on my finger. Even though I've had birds in my youth - I found I really needed your site.

We've had our bird for only 2 1/2 weeks and he does the most fascinating things - anytime I come up to the cage to talk to him - that seems to be his cue to head to the bottom of the cage and start his antics! He hangs upside down, climbs in and out the spaces in his ladder (usual behaviors)- but the funniest of all are his "flips". After just two weeks, he does them on command now! He positions his feet, tucks his head under and does a complete flip! I was amazed the first time he did it. I wonder if this is a unique behavior or if it's a common parakeet antic?

Aren't parakeets so cute? It sounds like you have a really talented and intelligent one! Yes, they love attention and affection, and can do all sorts of tricks - flips, spins, dances, and of course learning to talk and sing and whistle. Mine like to hang upside down from the curtain rod and then leap onto the curtains below. If you show delight in what they do, then they'll do it over and over again to get that reaction out of you :)

Do you have a digital camera? Maybe you could take a mini-video of his flips!
