We're Yelling - The Parakeets are Yelling

User Question
We have had a lot of arguing in our house lately over a variety of things. Over the last week or so, I've noticed our two keets (both about 6 mos old) bouncing on their perchs and "yelling" at each other. Are they imitating us, or could there be a problem with them? Thanks for your help.

p.s. Your site is awesome!

Lisa's Answer
Yes most definitely parakeets are incredibly smart creatures and will pick up on what you do. They learn how to talk, to sing, to whistle and much more. If they hear wild excitement going on around them, they will be loud too!

It's always best to discuss problems in calm and even tones, so that the discussion is about the issues and not about who can yell the loudest. That would be healthiest for the birds and for you humans too :) If you find yourself raising your voice to try to "win", take a time out!
