Parakeets and Hamsters

User Question
I love ur site, i've been reading it for days. Please answer a few questions about my 2 keets-

Can my parakeets become friends with my hamster?

Can parakeets learn to talk in pairs?

Does every parakeet have the potential to talk?

and finally, What is the maxium number of parakeets i can put in a cage about as large as urs?

Lisa's Answer
Parakeets and hamsters have really different things they're interested in. So while I don't think the hamster will try to eat the parakeet, I doubt the parakeet will ever go down and have a conversation with the hamster :) Parakeets like to be up high, on curtain rods. Hamsters like to be on the ground.

I have hand training information here -

Sure, you can have two parakeets that both learn to talk. Both might not learn how to talk though. You have to understand that each parakeet has its own level of interest in talking, you can't force them to talk.

I wouldn't worry about maximum parakeets you can stuff into a cage. I would buy one and train it and teach it to talk. Then after that one is fully trained, look into getting a second. Training a parakeet takes time, and you don't want to rush things.
