Finding the Owner of a Lost Keet
User Question
Lisa's Answer
First, make up a simple poster from 8 1/2 x 11 paper and post it at various spots in your neighborhood. It's likely that the keet came from a nearby house, and undoubtedly the owners will see such a sign.
Next, talk to the pet stores in your area and perhaps put up a sign there too. This parakeet was bought somewhere, and most people who lose a keet will go buy another.
Third, many keet owners take their keets to the vet. Check with the vets in your area to see if any know of a keet that looks like the one you found.
Talk to animal shelters - a person who lost a keet might call them to see if it has been found, even if the shelter doesn't normally handle birds.
If you do all of these things and still don't hear a response after a week or two, it sounds like the owners might have simply given up the bird for lost and went on with their lives. As sad as it might seem, some people buy parakeets because they're "cheap" and figure they are disposable. Be happy that your keet has found a loving new home with you!
